Sawmill Marketing Public Relations was founded in 1995 by Susan J. Anthony, previously a public relations executive with major, national marketing communications agencies. Sawmill Marketing Public Relations has quickly gained a reputation for creativity in strategic communications problem solving and for design and implementation of results driven programs. It offers a wide range of public relations services for regional and national clients whose marketing situations include product launches and repositionings, new market development and expansions, lead generation, customer recruitment and retention, corporate reputation enhancement and management.

Susan J. Anthony

susan_newSusan J. Anthony formed Sawmill Marketing Public Relations in 1995, following a 20-year tenure with national marketing communications agencies, including Carton Donofrio Partners in Baltimore where she served as Executive Vice President, Director of Public Relations. Her broad public relations experience includes all facets of marketing public relations with a particular expertise in designing and executing media relations programs as key business development strategies. She has worked with clients in nearly every business category including business to business, consumer and professional services. Clients include national media relations programs for the Homestead Resort during the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games; international law firms Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Venable, LLP and Pepper Hamilton; Park Place, and Tanglewood Conservatories.

Anthony has a depth of PR experience in the energy sector including national and regional programs for Wärtsilä North America, South River Consulting, Castlebridge Energy Group and Pepco Energy Services. She has also provided crisis communications planning and media relations services for the family of Chandra Levy, crisis communications services for a Washington, D. C. headquartered nonprofit organization, regional and national media relations for Clark Turner Signature Homes episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in Port Deposit, Md. and media training, media relations and speaker services for the plaintiff attorneys in the landmark intelligent design case, Kitzmiller, et al vs. Dover Area School District.

While at Carton Donofrio, she developed public relations creative strategies and also managed program implementation for clients including the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Rubbermaid Commercial Products Division and Air Products. Her agency tenure also included Saatchi & Saatchi Business Communications where she served as Vice President/Group Manager. She led the agency’s public relations initiatives for Xerox Corporation, Du Pont Company and Standard Oil Company.

Additionally, she designed and implemented communications programs for Chase Manhattan Bank, Hathaway Shirts and Champion Activewear. She is a founding member of the Governor’s Commission on Women’s Health and serves as chair of the University of Maryland Baltimore County Resource Board, a member of the board of directors of the Greater Jacksonville Association and on the advisory board of Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore.

Jeffrey A. Davis

davis_newJeffrey A. Davis has more than 20 years of news media and national public relations experience. A partner with Sawmill Marketing Public Relations in Baltimore, he has extensive expertise in corporate positioning and reputation management, particularly in media relations, media training, crisis communications and social media.

His agency experience includes Crosby Marketing Communications in Annapolis, Md., where he served as senior vice president, and Carton Donofrio Partners (formerly Richardson, Myers & Donofrio) and Trahan, Burden & Charles in Baltimore where he developed public relations programs for a variety of Fortune 500 corporations and brands. Client experience includes the American Occupational Therapy Association, Armstrong World Industries, Baltimore Orioles, Honeywell, Kaiser Permanente, K. Hovnanian Homes, Lucite, Major League Baseball Properties, the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industries, Park City Mountain Resort, Pfizer, Rubbermaid Commercial Products and Verizon Yellow Pages. Project work includes crisis communications in connection with the Duke lacrosse case, PR counsel for the family of Chandra Levy, national media relations for the “Intelligent Design” case (Tammy Kitzmiller, et al. v. Dover Area School District, et al.), and publicity for ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Prior to entering public relations, he served as a newspaper reporter for daily newspapers in Ohio, New Jersey and Maryland. Active nationally in the public relations industry, Davis authors a blog on trends in public relations and is a regular speaker on public relations, particularly in the area of technology. A member of the National Press Club and the Counselor’s Academy, he holds the APR accreditation from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), held the position of Maryland PRSA President, and serves as a senior judge for the national Silver Anvil Awards program. He has taught advertising and public relations courses at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and serves on the board of directors of the Parks and People Foundation in Baltimore and the PR committees for the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation in Annapolis and Central Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University.
