Baltimore PR Firm Partner Lists 7 Things People Don't Know About Her
ByHere are (only) 7 things about me that most people don’t know. They are listed in the order that they come into my head:
- I am a picky eater. I’m leery of trying new foods or new dishes without first knowing (at least) the main ingredients. Not big on veggies or fruits. Absolutely do not eat any fish, regardless of how (or if) it’s prepared. No veal. No organ meats. No game. Suffice it to say that food is not an area of adventure or experimentation for me.
- Before leaving the house early every morning to enjoy a walk or hike with the dogs, I need to have made the bed. If not, it will be a ‘slob’ day. And who needs that?
- For many years, I’ve collected antique Quimper, French pottery fr
om Brittany. The collection is in every room of the house. I’m not a Quimper expert so I trust my eye, instinct and the two dealers I’ve dealt with for years. Looking at Quimper makes me feel happy.
- My trek to/from Mt. Everest Base Camp and spending time with teams heading for the top has only intensified my desire to climb it. But not to worry. The time commitment is enormous (at least 6 to 8 weeks in country, not to mention the training time) and the cost (plan on around $70K) settles that debate. But I continue to dream…
- A couple of creative writing classes convinced me that I have zero aptitude for it as well as zero interest in this type of writing.. I love hearing published authors speak about their craft (Edward P. Jones is the all time favorite) and I’m fascinated with their creativity and writing process. But creative writing is not and likely will never be my forte. And here I thought writing was, well, writing. Not so.
- I sp
ent a lot of my growing up years in a small resort community on the shores of Lake Michigan where, as a teenager, summer was one continuous beach party with huge night time bonfires and generous samplings of adult beverages. One evening a party was interrupted by a visit from representatives from the county sheriff’s office who came running over the dunes with spot lights. I was among a small handful that didn’t outrun them and spent the night locked up in a nearby barn. This exercise was repeated several times each summer for as many years as the sheriff was reelected. However, I had the good sense to always stay on the lake side of the gatherings.
- There have been too many ‘small word’ instances for me not to be a firm believer in a Master Plan. I also have had countless experiences of thinking about someone—and especially a person I haven’t been in touch with for some time—and the person calls or we run into each other somewhere. It makes me uneasy to think about these ‘small world’ phenomena and even more so to write about them. So let’s just leave it at that.
I’d love to learn 7 things I don’t know about these people: Jeff Davis, Amy Goldberg, Nancy Murdoch, Cameron Barry, Denise Ryan, Mary Beth Pratt and Erin Sweeney.

How can I resist such an invitation? Here goes:
#1 – I hate to fly. You’re in a tin can with wings being controlled by someone else who is probably not Chesley Sullenberger. The food is inedible. The drinks are no longer free and if my recent flight to San Francisco is any indication, the crew is not trained in CPR (a woman collapsed on her way to the bathroom). What’s to like?
#2 – If smoking didn’t cause cancer, I would probably smoke. That’s along the same lines as if martinis didn’t get me skoozled, I probably drink them. All of this would be done with short red nails like my soigne Aunt Edith, who smoked, enjoyed a cocktail and didn’t cook. She lived to be 86 and didn’t die of anything related to her bad habits.
#3 – Unlike Susan, I am an ardent and adventurous eater. However, I could also happily live on the same foods as the average third grader: pizza, grilled cheese, mac & cheese and PB&J.
#4 – I like Twitter better than Facebook.
#5 – I collect children’s books, especially alphabet books.
#6 – I spent almost my entire fourth grade year in the hall. Apparently, the teacher thought I was a smart-ass. Go figure.
#7 – I cry at most movies, many TV shows and lots of newspaper articles. I often cry when my husband tells me he loves me. I cried the entire week after the Presidential election and throughout all of the Inauguration. If I had watched the Golden Globes, I probably would have cried when Mickey Rourke thanked his dogs.
Kudos on the lucky 7, Susan. “Small world” indeed. In addition to the several parallels that we’ve already determined between you and I, do you realize I visit the Michigan Dunes every summer for a family reunio?. As you say, we’ll leave it at that.
