If you haven’t seen it, you’ve likely read about it. Or talked, blogged or tweeted about it.
It’s the first TV commercial out of Crispin Porter + Bogusky for new client Microsoft featuring comedian Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates shopping for shoes. Some get what Microsoft is doing here, while others have three-letter reactions, including huh? and WTF?
But as an internal memo from Microsoft says, it’s meant to be an “icebreaker” and is “designed to engage consumers and spark a new conversation about Windows.” There’s more to come, and the campaign is supposedly going to drill deeper and make more sense as more ads appear. We’ll wait and see.
In the meantime, the public relations and social media aspects of the campaign have already kicked in, with all sorts of news stories and blog posts generating buzz and anticipation for what’s next (when’s the last time an ad got so much attention?). Like it or not, isn’t that the point?
