Noah Adams’ April 5 NPR story, A Beer Story You Can’t Pass Up, provides a product publicity tutorial well worth the 2 minutes and 40 seconds to listen to it, regardless of how extensive (or not) your experience is in PR and media relations.
He begins with a valuable insight into why he got the pitch, reinforcing the importance of good, thorough media contact research. He then takes the listener through his thought process on “should I? or shouldn’t I?” do the story which should be listened to with an upcoming pitch in mind.
Finally, he explains the angle that worked for him and why, ending with his bet that the PR people behind the story were “back in the office giving each other high fives for getting a story on the radio.”
He’s absolutely right.
